Signal and Telegram downloads are increasing after WhatsApp's claim that it will share data with Facebook.
Downloads of confidential messengers such as Signal and Telegram began to rise as users looked for alternatives to Facebook-owned WhatsApp due to concerns about changes in the privacy policy of the service.

Between January 6 and 10, Signal has been installed by approximately 7.5 million devices worldwide through the Apple's App Store and Android's Google Play, according to Sensor Tower. This is 43 times more than it was in the previous week. This is the highest number of Signal installations in a week or even a month in the history of the app.
Meanwhile, Telegram has been downloaded 5.6 million times worldwide from Wednesday to Sunday, according to Apptopia.
But starting from February 8, the app will prompt users to accept the updated terms to continue using WhatsApp. However, it's worth noting that this update will not affect users in Europe and the UK due to the data protection regulations in their jurisdictions.
In a Monday statement, WhatsApp said that this update will not affect the privacy of messages sent to friends and family. It clarified that the update will include "changes related to messaging a business on WhatsApp, which is optional, and provides further transparency about how we collect and use data." WhatsApp says, the data shared with Facebook is used to help improve infrastructure, promote safety and security and refine services by making suggestions or personalizing features and content. This could also include integration between Facebook-branded products and WhatsApp. After the announcement, Tesla CEO Elon Musk urged his Twitter followers last week to "use Signal".
