Why do we need Sharks?

As you know, there are branched food chains in nature: plants create organic matter, animals eat it," vegetarians " are eaten by predators, etc. Sharks are at the very end of such chains or nearby.
Despite their agility and aggressiveness, sharks are more likely to prey on weak, crippled and sick victims. The elimination of such from reproduction improves the health of the population. So the sharks could be called "nurses of the ocean." Their activity helps not only fish and marine mammals to exist normally. Sharks also feed on shellfish (squid), there are species whose diet consists almost entirely of plankton-tiny crustaceans, larvae.

Finding Nemo (2003)

By eating some animals, sharks do not allow their population to multiply massively. It supports in the nature of competition. As a result, species diversity is preserved in ecosystems. And environmentalists have long found out: the larger it is, the more resistant the community is to adverse environmental factors.

Since 2000, off the coast of North Carolina (USA), "thanks" to fishermen, large sharks have become rare. This allowed the stingrays to breed. They began to eat out the populations of their traditional victims-bottom shellfish, including oysters and scallops, and spread out. From the menu of the surrounding restaurants, the classic American soups made from these shellfish, pies with such a filling – something that was an important attraction for thousands of tourists-immediately disappeared. It is obvious that people should take into account the crucial ecological role of sharks, and not inflate the myths about "bloodthirsty robbers".

Like pets, sharks have their own characteristics and temperament, and they do not always feel comfortable or interested in interacting with people. In fact, of the 480 shark species worldwide, only 3 are considered dangerous to humans; the tiger shark, great white, and bull shark. And even so, it is unlikely that you will be attacked by a shark.

There is still a long way to go to fully understand these incredible fish, and activists around the world are taking promising steps to protect them and better understand them.
